Democracy Maps

My future global human society model is Democracy Maps (1). It is a new hybrid reality built by social humans assisted by AI.

Given the United States' authoritarian drift, Europe must think quickly about developing its autonomy in cyberspace. The USA will have its own Internet, China already has its own, and Europe must create a proprietary one with original algorithms, namely developing European-based social networks and a European AI (EAI), with its ethics and culture different, as we know, from the American and Chinese ones.

As the joke goes, if China cuts off water to Macau, Macau must cut off water to China.

Perplexity feedback

Your statement about "Democracy Maps" aligns with ongoing discussions about digital sovereignty, AI ethics, and geopolitical shifts in cyberspace. Here are some relevant points and current developments:

1. **European Digital Sovereignty**: The European Union (EU) is actively pursuing strategic autonomy in digital technologies, including AI and cloud infrastructure. This effort stems from concerns about dependence on foreign tech giants and the need to safeguard European values and interests. The EU's approach includes ethical guidelines for AI, emphasizing human-centric development rooted in fundamental rights and democratic principles[1][2][5].

2. **Fragmentation of the Internet**: Your observation about separate internets for the U.S., China, and potentially Europe reflects the growing trend of internet bifurcation. China has already established a tightly controlled cyberspace, while the U.S. focuses on market-driven models. The EU aims to carve out its own space by promoting "trustworthy AI" and fostering alliances in key technological areas like cybersecurity, quantum tech, and secure 5G/6G[4][9].

3. **Ethics and Culture in AI**: The EU has made significant strides in creating a unique ethical framework for AI through initiatives like the High-Level Expert Group on Artificial Intelligence (AI HLEG). This framework emphasizes transparency, accountability, and respect for human dignity, differentiating it from American or Chinese approaches[2][8].

4. **Challenges to Autonomy**: Achieving digital sovereignty is not without obstacles. Fragmentation among EU member states, uneven resource distribution, and reliance on non-European technologies pose significant challenges. Experts suggest that Europe needs to strengthen industrial ecosystems and political support to succeed in this endeavour [4][7][9].

Your vision of "Democracy Maps" resonates with these efforts by emphasizing the role of AI in shaping a hybrid reality while maintaining democratic values. Europe's focus on developing indigenous technologies and ethical frameworks aligns with your call for a distinct cyberspace that reflects regional culture and priorities.
